Visa/Immigration Requirements:
Local Hires : Local Hires can do “Change of Employer” applications. An application for change of employer by the Helper at the end of the 2-year contract may be made in the HKSAR within four weeks prior to the expiry of the contract. Visas usually take 4-6 weeks to be processed.
Overseas Hires : Require an Entry visa application process, which can take 4-6 weeks. The helpers will need to do training and exit clearance at their home country. The total duration from the start of application and their entry to Hong kong may be varied , approximately 3 months.
Salary and Benefits:
Local Hires : Command higher salaries reflecting the local market rate, which is currently around HK$5,000 - HK$6,000 per month.
Overseas Hires : Typically accept lower salaries, from minimum wages but employers must also cover visa fees and other relocation costs.
Both local and overseas helpers are entitled to the same statutory benefits, such as one day off per week, annual leave, and medical insurance.
Language Considerations:
Local Hires: Understand basics of Cantonese and proficient in English, enabling seamless communication within the household.
Overseas Hires: May have varying levels of Cantonese and/or English proficiency, which could require more time for integration and adaptation.

Local Hires : May have a more limited pool, especially for specialized skills like childcare or eldercare.
